There's no better time to catch up on your reading than during a pandemic (and now you can also support local bookstores!).
Glass Bookshop is an independent bookstore that focuses on Canadian writing with special attention paid to LGBTQ2SIA and IBPOC writers, as well as the independent publishers who help support and produce this work. Devoted to making space for marginalized and lesser-known writers and publishers, as well as to highlight Edmonton's vibrant literary scene, Glass Bookshop strives to be a cultural hub for Edmonton’s diverse community of readers, writers, and publishers.
They have adjusted their business to adapt to a world with no in-person shopping and people stuck at home.
In light of the pandemic, Glass Bookshop has shut the doors to in-person browsing and introduced the Glass Bookshop Delivery Service, which offers free delivery across Edmonton, St Albert, and Sherwood Park. Customers are now able to browse our catalogue on our website, as well as place special orders for titles we don’t yet carry, and can expect them to be delivered upon arrival at no cost.
Since we’re also a community gathering space with a robust roster of readings, book launches, and other literary events, we’ve turned to social media to host virtual readings with authors in collaboration with publishers and literary festivals here in Edmonton and across Canada.
For those who miss trusted booksellers’ recommendations, we introduced a subscription service, which allows customers to purchase a curated collection of titles, either on a monthly basis or spread over several months. The titles change each month and are comprised of new releases from our favourite publishers, local writing, and other unique titles that those who are devoted browsers of indie bookstores have come to love.
As always, Edmonton’s community of book lovers have shown incredible support through their generous orders and enthusiasm on social media. We’ve had tremendous response, which proves to us that Edmonton is made up of people who rally around what makes this place special, and who care deeply about the cultural life of the city.
